Act 1/Scene 1

El Vonne Brown

Performing Concrete Poetry

Royal Festival Hall, The Clore Ballroom Monday 4th June 2012, 3 – 5pm

Join us for an energetic exercise in performing concrete poetry, taking it off the page and onto the stage of the Clore Ballroom floor. This is performance poetry as you’ve never seen it before. The live performative lecture and participatory demonstration will be delivered through the medium of mime, song and contemporary dance. Assisted by trained choreographers, Brown will translate the written word and spatial diagrams into temporal readable instructions, looking at the page as if one were looking down at a dance floor.

Visual poems selected from upstairs in the Saison Poetry Library will be translated and performed by a dance collective (in this case the audience) to produce a piece of performance poetry, or 3D visual poem, an abstract exercise in translation and of reading/performing texts in parallel.

Please wear comfortable shoes.

Eleanor Vonne Brown runs X Marks the Bökship a bookshop and project space for independent publishers in London. She initiated the Publication as Practice lecture series at the Bökship, curated the Translation and Verbal Mutation evenings and co-curated the annual performance and music event Itchy Park at Limehouse Town Hall.
